I wrote about this in October 2022, when the costs have been filed, after which in November 2022, once they have been dropped; now right here is that this replace (NBC Los Angeles [Eric Leonard]):
Los Angeles County can pay [Eugene Yu,] the proprietor of the Michigan-based election administration software program firm[, Konnech,] $5 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that the LA County District Lawyer’s Workplace violated his rights when he was arrested and charged in 2022 in a prison case that was dismissed 37 days later.
“Plaintiffs alleged that Mr. Yu’s arrest and seizure of Konnech’s property occurred with out possible trigger and violated Mr. Yu’s civil rights, inflicting hurt to Konnech’s enterprise and Mr. Yu’s fame ,” county attorneys wrote to the Board of Supervisors in a letter urging approval of the settlement….
LA District Lawyer George Gascón introduced this at a press convention [in Oct. 2022] that Yu and his agency criminally violated the phrases of the corporate’s $2.6 million contract with LA County, beneath which the corporate offered election logistics software program to voting officers.
Gascón accused Yu and firm of conspiracy and embezzlement, by allegedly storing sure ballot employee information on servers in China as an alternative of servers within the US, however specified that there was no proof that voting or voter information was saved offshore… .
For Konnech and Yu’s grievance, see right here. My preliminary response, I am unhappy to say, was that the prosecutors most likely had stable proof behind their accusations, partly as a result of the prosecution was opposite to what one would anticipate politically from Gascón, and partly as a result of in my expertise prosecutors often (although not at all times ) have stable proof. However on this case, it seems the prosecutors made a mistake; I might prefer to know extra about how this all happened.
